It places particular emphasis on the dynamics of ports and commercial routes that emerged in the Hydrographic Basin of the Rio Real and Rio Piauí during the illegal transatlantic trade era, spanning from 1831 to the 1850s. By employing an archaeological approach that intertwines with historical research and draws from the social memory of quilombola communities, the goal is to make significant strides in the investigation of clandestine trafficking in Sergipe. Additionally, it aims to engage in a discourse regarding the enduring impacts of slavery's crimes on contemporary society, with a special focus on the strategically utilized ports for the trade of African lives.
The use of war steamers in the National Squad allowed maximum mobility of the units of the infantry corps and the supply in their destination area, this was part of the logistics in modern warfare. Steam warships became primary means of transporting troops given the lack of expedited land communication routes. In short, the constitutional forces went from leading small divisions to permanent Army Corps, with a greater number and better endowment in organization and weapons, which allowed Guzmán Blanco to consolidate himself in central power for eighteen years (1870-1888).
2023-12-24T01:30:58+00:00 Copyright (c) 2023 Navigator http://portaldeperiodicos.marinha.mil.br./index.php/navigator/article/view/5042 O Porto mais ao sul da América Portuguesa: 2023-12-24T03:28:07+00:00 Paulo Cesar Possamai paulocpossamai@gmail.com
This article aims to analyze the Portuguese expansionist policy in the Rio de la Plata when the Colony of Sacramento was founded, in 1680. Colonia do Sacramento was a hub of expansion and commerce for almost a century. As a way to understand the social relations on board the warship, we analyzed the ship's books and some periodicals that circulated in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. In the research, we also sought to identify the types of diet of officers and soldiers, cultural conflicts and rituals related to food and the routine of the aforementioned gunboat. As the main methodological reference, we used the notion of Carlo Ginzburg's evidential paradigm to investigate the details of the documents, in order to elucidate the events already mentioned.
2023-12-24T01:33:33+00:00 Copyright (c) 2023 Navigator http://portaldeperiodicos.marinha.mil.br./index.php/navigator/article/view/3663 O VAPOR DE BAIXO SHIPWRECK CAUSE FACTORS - RECIFE, PERNAMBUCO, BRAZIL 2023-12-24T03:28:09+00:00 Ialy Cintra Ferreira ialy.cintra@ufpe.br Carlos Rios cccrios@hotmail.com Marilia Perazzo mariliaperazzo@hotmail.com Daniela Cisneiros danielacisneiros@gmail.com
This article examines the Vapor de Baixo shipwreck, located in the adjacent sea to Olinda-PE, about five miles from Recife Harbour, at a depth of 21m. It is a steam vessel with propulsion to side blade wheels, has riveted iron hull, being one of the specimens built between the end of the nineteenth century and the beginning of the twentieth century. Thus, this research sought to analyze the factors causing the sinking of the Vapor de Baixo and is justified to the extent that it was proposed to identify the characteristics of the ship, its surroundings and its interactions with the environment using the methods and techniques of Underwater Archaeology. For this, the methodology developed was defined in three stages: documentary, bibliographic and imagery research; non-interventional prospection of the sinking and analysis of the variables established in the material and contextual dimensions. Dives were performed, where the hull, parts and accessories were analyzed, as well as the ship's planimetry was performed to identify the type, size and power of its machine. By the materiality found and the human factor being almost always associated with the other factors, this was characterized preliminary as the cause of the shipwreck.
